Topic: Weapons of our Warfare
Text: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, Ephesians 6:12
As Christians we understand we are engaged in a spiritual warfare and it is expedient that we war a good warfare as Apostle Paul admonished and also stated about his life. He fought a good fight. Understanding that we war in the Spirit and understanding the enemy is of great importance however it is still insufficient to gaining dominion in the Spiritual war without understanding our
weapons of war and how to use them efficiently.
1 Timothy 1:18 King James Version (KJV)
18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
In every Battle there are weapons at the disposal of the actors of war and efficient and effective use of these weapons go a long way in sustaining Victory. I have used the word sustaining Victory because we fight from the Understanding we have the Victory and we exercise the authority given to us in Victory.
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.From the scriptures in 2 Corinthians 10: 4-6, we recognize that our weapons are of a spiritual kind. They are not physical in nature and character. A lot of time we may tend to operate in the flesh and apply physical and fleshly strategies of war for spiritual battles, That’s why we must recognize that our battles begin from
the realms of the spirit before it emanates to the physical. So the Spiritual battle ground is a MUST win for us. We must therefore take up our Spiritual armour.
The Bible refers to us Christians as Soldiers and as such we should be prepared for battle, every soldier is consistently in training and preparation for battle because the enemy can attack at any time so we must be BATTLE READY!
Characteristics of Spiritual weapons
1. They are not Carnal
2. They are mighty
3. There operations are through God
The weapons are mighty through God, When God is not the source of our lives a mighty weapon can become ineffective in the Hand of an individual- remember the sons of Sceva , Acts 19:10-16; 2 Samuel 1:19-27, When God left Saul, His weapons of war was not sufficient to win in Battle. It is very important that the we are prepared through our relationship with Jesus and living in righteousness, detesting the sinful nature so we can operate effectively the weapons of warfare.
The Lord declared in his word that we are his battle axe and weapons of war- Jeremiah 51:20. So the first weapon of warfare is our selves arrayed in Holiness and righteousness.
Weapons of Warfare
1. Our Selves- Jeremiah 51:20
2. The Armour- Ephesians 6:10-19
3. All Prayer in the Spirit
4. Watch
5. Perseverance
6. The Blood of Jesus
7. The name of Jesus
8. The Holy Spirit
It is our duty to be deliberate about our equipping. We must put on the whole armour. Take not note of the emphasis of “the Whole “fully dressed and ready for spiritual warfare. Without the full amour of God, we cannot withstand in the evil day. The Objective is not only to withstand but to also finish standing.
THE ARMOUR
God has an armoury- Jeremiah 50:25
Ephesians 6:14-17 gives a vivid description on the amour of God we should put on as we engage in living and warring in the spirit
1. Belt of Truth: This gives you assurance, authenticity, Truth holds
everything in place- John 8:32, John 4:24. The Holy Spirit guides us to all
truth John 16:13.
2. Breastplate of righteousness– Righteous living preserves and protects a
man- Isiah 59:17, Leviticus 8:8- Urim and Thunmim- Doctrine of Christ
and the truth) also known as Light and Perfection) The protect our heart
from the attack of the enemy
3. Feet with the gospel of Peace
4. Shield of faith- This is the word of God Proverbs 30:5. The word of God
produces faith for advancement in any situation. It quenches the fiery
dart(arrows) of the enemy – Romans 10:17
5. Helmet of Salvation: Understanding the Saving work of Grace done by Jesus for us. It protects our minds from the liars of the enemy- Exodus 15:2, 1 Samuel 2:1, 2 Samuel 22:3, Psalm 18:2. This Helmet signals our
Victory from Darkness.
6. The Sword of the Spirit- This is the word of God which is sharp and quick. It is offensive in nature; the word of the Lord is declared to accomplish the purposes of God. Hebrews 4:12 Prayer is a weapon of warfare, the bible encourages us to engage always with all
prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Prayer in the Spirit through tongues is crucial to engage in the arena of warfare-1 Corinthians 14,
Watching in the Spirit is a weapon of warfare watch the times and season, Observe the on goings in your life and watching with tenacity, perseverance and great resolve for the brethren to see God come through. Ephesians 5:19 Perseverance in spiritual warfare is crucial, sometimes war can be very drawn out and this can take a toll on a soldier’s tenacity and concentration but God
desires you to preserve in prayer and warfare.- Mathew 26:41
The Blood of Jesus sanctifies us ready for battle, through the blood of Jesus we have victory over sin and Satan. Revelation 12:11; 1 John 1:7. The Blood gives us Boldness to enter(access) into the holy of Holies (God’s Presence) Hebrews 10:19. The Blood of Jesus Speaks on our behalf better things of mercy, freedom and grace. The name of Jesus when called in any situation changes the Arena of Battle. The scriptures tell us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10, Psalms 61:3, Genesis 4:26. The name of Jesus is above every other name and dominates in the spiritual realm, every knee bows in obedience to the name of Jesus. Philippians 2:9-11 We see in Acts 3:6, the name of Jesus bringing healing to the man at the beautiful gate. Acts 4:30,
The Holy Spirit help us in the place of warfare in prayers making intercession for us, that’s why we must partner with Him in prayer and life so we can war a good warfare Romans 8:26-27. This is why we must pray in the Spirit, through
the expression of speaking in tongues. Mark16:17.
As we walk as soldiers of Christ may we become sensitized to the requirements of battle and fight the good fight of faith for we are victorious and more than conquerors. Never engage with the enemy in the physical Arena, go in battle,
spiritual activate your weapons of war, Be BATTLE READY and may we STAND
having done all.
